The suspension of acting executive for governance at the Central Procurement Board of Namibia, Elizabeth Shiponeni, has been extended for a third time – eight months after she was first sent home.
The Namibian understands Shiponeni’s suspension is linked to an alleged corruption scheme involving a school food tender, and pharmaceutical and railway deals.
Documents which The Namibian has seen show that Shiponeni, who was suspended in October 2025, was initially expected to remain on suspension until 28 February. That was later extended to 31 May, and now to 31 July.
“It’s true that I’m still on suspension, but I can’t say more because I’m not allowed to speak to the media,” Shiponeni said last month.
Her suspension follows a forensic investigation during which her cellphone and laptop were allegedly confiscated.
Sources further claim Shiponeni was found not guilty during the disciplinary process, but that her suspension continued.
The repeated extensions have raised concerns within the institution over the length of the suspension and the delay in finalising the case, sources familiar with the matter say.
Procurement board spokesperson Johanna Kambala yesterday said the matter is handled through an independent process.
“In view of this, the CPBN is unable to provide any comment at this stage,” she said.
