Windhoek residents can ride City buses free of charge this Saturday morning to mark Public Transport Awareness Day during Zero Emission Week.
The initiative is aimed at encouraging residents to consider public transport as an alternative to private vehicles while raising awareness of cleaner and more sustainable modes of transport.
City of Windhoek spokesperson Lydia Amutenya says Public Transport Awareness Day forms part of the broader activities for Zero Emission Week.

The free hop-on, hop-off bus rides will be offered from 09h00 to 13h00 on Saturday, 26 September.
Amutenya says the initiative is intended to raise awareness about the environmental benefits of public transport, including reduced traffic congestion, lower carbon emissions and improved air quality.
The day will also give residents an opportunity to familiarise themselves with available public transport routes and experience the service as an alternative to travelling in private vehicles.
The buses will operate along designated routes covering key locations, including Windhoek’s central business district, Khomas Grove Mall and Grove Mall.
Amutenya says encouraging residents to use public transport forms part of the city’s broader sustainable mobility objectives and is intended to encourage behavioural change.
She says the initiative seeks to demonstrate that public transport can be a “convenient, affordable and environmentally responsible travel option”.
The city says the initiative is ultimately aimed at contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable and liveable Windhoek.
