THE Nudo opposition party on Friday was the first political party to register a presidential candidate for the elections next month.
Nudo president Chief Kuaima Riruako is the candidate for the presidential election on November 27 and 28.’You are starting the process, none of the other political parties have yet registered either their list of candidates for the parliamentary elections, or their presidential candidates,’ ECN Chairman Victor Tonchi told the Nudo delegation.’It is good to do this ahead of the deadline of October 19 and not to wait until the last minute.’According to Teo Uahongora, who led the Nudo delegation, his party wanted to have all the documentation in order, checked and approved by the ECN to avoid last-minute hiccups.’The fact that we submit the name of our presidential candidate should curb rumours going around that opposition parties are forming a coalition block for next month’s elections (with one joint presidential candidate),’ Uahongora said. Nudo’s list of 72 candidates for the parliamentary elections, which are held at the same time as the presidential elections, will be submitted next week.’Requirements on the submission form are that the ID numbers and voter registration numbers of each candidate must be filled in. Our candidates are from various regions and these details must be checked and verified. We are doing this right now,’ Uahongora told The Namibian on Friday.
