President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has extended Namibia’s condolences to Tanzanian president Samia Suluhu Hassan following the death of her husband, first gentleman Hafidh Ameir.
Ameir died on Monday at a Zanzibar hospital, where he received treatment for a heart condition.
Nandi-Ndaitwah said she was deeply saddened by the passing of Ameir, describing the moment as one of profound sorrow for the Tanzanian president, her children, and the bereaved family.
“On behalf of the government and people of the Republic of Namibia, and indeed on my own behalf, I extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to her excellency president Hassan, her children, the bereaved family, and the people of Tanzania during this difficult time,” she said.
In her condolence message on Monday, the president acknowledged the difficulty of losing a loved one, saying words could offer only limited comfort during such a painful period.
She encouraged Hassan and her family to draw strength from the memories of the life they shared with Ameir and from the support and compassion of those around them.
Nandi-Ndaitwah also expressed Namibia’s solidarity with Tanzania during the period of mourning.
She said the relationship between Namibia and Tanzania was built on a shared history of friendship and solidarity, adding that Namibians joined Tanzanians in mourning the loss.
“May the bereaved family find strength and comfort during this difficult period, and may the soul of Mr Hafidh Ameir rest in eternal peace,” Nandi-Ndaitwah said.
