Namibian Hits Get Orchestral Makeover

Optimism is high ahead of tomorrow’s historic Youth Orchestral Choir Sing Out at the NamPower Convention Hall in Windhoek.

In a Namibian first, award-winning hip-hop star Jericho ‘J-Twizz’ Gawanab, R&B crooner Bertholdt Mbinda and gifted songstress Patricia Ochurus, who is also the event organiser, will perform some of their biggest hits backed by an orchestra, while youth choirs provide backing vocals.

The event will serve as a pilot for similar concerts in the future.

“This is definitely going to be a night to remember in the history of local music. It’s going to be massive. Obviously the nerves are in overdrive because this is the first time we are staging such a musical experience,” Ochurus says.

The orchestra will be conducted by the iconic Ronaldo Kandume, popularly known as Ronaldo the Violinist.

Ronaldo is a premier Namibian violinist, conductor and music organiser who plays a prominent role in the country’s classical and contemporary music scenes.

What makes the event more interesting is that the three billed music artists are representing diverse genres.

“This is not your ordinary live performance show. Come all, bring a friend,” baritone Bertholdt, also known as ‘Supwoofa’ in local music circles, says.

A popular award-winning singer, songwriter, composer and vocal coach, Bertholdt is responsible for some of Namibia’s most exciting R&B songs.

Jericho does not need any introduction at all. The towering crowd-puller has overcome multiple personal troubles to take his place back at the top.

Imagine hearing Jericho’s ‘Helele’, ‘Yabona’, ‘Heaven’s Missing Angel’, ‘He Ta Pa Te’ and ‘I Still Love You’; Berthold’s ‘You Are’, ‘Only One’, ‘Love Is All We Need’, ‘Take Me Home’, ‘Ons Was Nxa’ and ‘Standwa Sami’; or Patricia’s ‘Buruxa’, ‘I Almost Let Go’, ‘I Will Lift Up My Eyes’, ‘Hare Ida !Khuba Koa Re’, ‘Khaima I Sisen’ and ‘#Nu |Goaros’ performed with a choir and orchestra.

Ochurus says the event has the potential to be a real humdinger, while calling out to music lovers to attend in numbers and be part “in history-making at its best”.

Ochurus has also announced that there will be two surprise performances on the night.

A cool N$70 will give you access to the event if you buy your ticket in advance, while you will have to pay N$100 at the entrance.

The tickets are available at Webtickets and from all Model stores countrywide.

The doors will open at 18h00 and the show will start at 19h00 sharp.
