Namibia got off to a great start in the Capricorn Quadrangular Women’s T20 International Series with a 60-run victory against Hong Kong on Tuesday.

Namibia scored 116 for six wickets off their 20 overs, which proved to be more than enough as their bowlers skittled Hong Kong out for a meagre 56 runs to complete an emphatic victory.

After sending Namibia in to bat, Hong Kong got an early success when Iqra Sahar dismissed Sune Wittmann for a duck, but Arrasta Diergaardt and Yasmeen Khan rebuilt the innings with a 32-run partnership

Diergaardt was the first to depart for 16 off 21 balls (3×4) while Khan followed soon after for 20 off 27 (3×4) but Adri van der Merwe then took centre stage with a fine knock.

She anchored the innings, sharing a 37-run fourth wicket partnership with Kayleen Green (16 off 18 balls), and then shepherding the lower order to take  Namibia to a competitive total.

Van der Merwe remained unbeaten on 40, which came off 41 balls and included two fours and two sixes.

Maryam Bibi was Hong Kong’s best bowler with three wickets for 27 runs off four overs.

Hong Kong got off to a steady start with Kary Chan (6) and Mariko Hill (11) putting on 18 for the first wicket, but the match swung Namibia’s way when they snapped up four wickets for only five runs as Hong Kong crashed to 31/5.

Wilka Mwatile was the chief destroyer, taking three wickets in eight balls, and Hong Kong could not recover as they crashed to 56 all out.

Mwatile led the way with three wickets for 10 runs, to win the player of the match award, while Kayleen Green took 3/11 and Victoria Hamunyela 2/14.

United Arab Emirates also got their campaign off with a commanding 60-run victory against Uganda on Tuesday.

Sent in to bat, UAE lost two early wickets, but Kavisha Egodage and Theertha Satish led their revival with a 64-run third wicket partnership.

Satish was eventually run out for a top score of 39 off 35 balls (6×4), while Egodage scored 30 off 37 (3×4), and with Vaishnave Mahesh adding 13 further down the order they reached a competitive 120/6 off their 20 overs.

Irene Alumo was Uganda’s best bowler with two wickets for 28 runs.

Uganda got off to a steady reply with Kevin Awino and Prosscovia Alako putting on 26 runs for the first wicket, but they were both run out before UAE spinner Khushi Sharma cut through Uganda’s middle order with a hattrick of wickets.

She dismissed Stephani Nampiina (9), Phiona Kulume (0) and Evelyn Anyipo (0) off successive balls as Uganda crashed to 54/7, before they were all out for 70.

Sharma was UAE’s best bowler, taking 4/9 off three overs, while Archara Supriya took 2/9.
