Where there’s a will, there’s a way – Nandi-Ndaitwah tells Swapo central committee

As the Swapo central committee members decide whether to make vice president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah their sole presidential candidate, she says where there’s a will, there’s a way.

“Today, the central committee, the highest organ of authority between congresses as per the Swapo constitution, meets to take the work of Swapo forward. During this difficult moment but manageable circumstances, I strongly believe as the saying goes, where there is a will, there is a way,” she said at the central committee meeting at parliament on Saturday.

Nandi-Ndaitwah said the politburo has met three times since Geingob’s death in February to decide on the way forward.
During one of those meetings last week, the politburo endorsed Nandi-Ndaitwah as Swapo’s presidential candidate for the November national elections.

This despite the Swapo constitution stipulating that the party must host an extraordinary congress within 90 days to elect a president to complete Geingob’s term.

“In the process, some possible challenges that may have a bearing on our party, on how to move forward without our president, were identified,” she said.

Nandi-Ndaitwah implored the committee to make a mature decision.

“However, as tested leaders of the party, we must employ our political wisdom and willpower on how to overcome those identified challenges, thus enabling our party to fulfill its long time mission of serving the Namibian people effectively and efficiently at all times,” she said
