Have you ever seen or experienced something that made you believe you are connected to someone? It’s like putting your playlist on shuffle and all the songs playing resonate too well with you.
At the moment, I see white BMWs everywhere I go.
Many times, I have ignored these things.
“Oh, it’s just a coincidence,” I’d say. “Tomorrow will be different.” But a couple of revelations have made me believe that I have been looking at this the wrong way.
These signs mean something. All of them.
And so I decided to share this with you in a story which may or may not have happened.
James and Julia met a couple of years ago.
Through great conversations and mutual friends, they became closer and it was a happy time for them. Naturally, they found each other attractive, but at some point, Julia’s feelings for James faded away.
To avoid hurting him, she started keeping her distance, preferring to text him rather than meet up with him.
James was confused about this and started hanging out with his ex-girlfriend more often in retaliation to Julia’s behaviour. Too bad she was never jealous. She only wanted to see him happy.
When James noticed his plans were not working, he became more persistent. He’d show up at Julia’s place unexpectedly and because this made her uncomfortable, she’d pretend that she was not at home, even though she was.
This made James furious and each day he’d text her, call her, in turn making Julia slightly frightened. She knew he was a good guy, so she figured that he’d stop all of this and leave her alone at some point.
He never did.
Julia would avoid the routes he’d take and even block his number, but somehow, they’d always bump into each other – even at the unlikeliest places, day or night.
Suddenly, the communication stopped and Julia was relieved.
Months later, she found love in someone else’s arms and James saw this. He was terribly heartbroken, asking her questions about her new relationships even though they had been apart for a while. Julia did not want to reveal too much, but said he would find his own happiness someday.
James returned to her life again a couple of months later – more in love with her than before.
He was devastated because he put himself in stupid situations during their brief hiatus and only sought her love. Julia only let him in her world because she thought she could help him find his way. After all, she loved to help people. She knew, though, that she could never love him.
The calls and the ‘I’m outside’ texts started again until she received a late night message. “I was in a car accident and I decided to fix everything in my life, starting by deleting your number. Don’t text me or call me. Goodbye.”
Julia had always wanted him to learn a lesson, but never in that way. At least, not near-death experience-ish. But he did.
Since then, it has been a ‘hi’ and ‘goodbye’ every few months or so.
With this little story, I just want to say that… sometimes the people who come into your life are meant to be there, even if you don’t know why. Maybe it’s to teach you how to be stronger or give you experience. Who knows?
That’s probably the nasty side of fate. But everything happens for a reason.
Oh, and keep a lookout for the signs.
