Rudolf Bester’s entry into the PSL was a low key affair, but he continues to prove himself to be one of the best ‘imports’ in the Absa Premiership.

The Namibian flyer, who played some key games and scored some sensational goals for the ‘Team of Choice’ last season, is again proving himself to be one of the club’s key players this season. He has also excelled at international level, having played 25 games and scored seven goals for Namibia – in fact he also scored for his country against Bafana Bafana in a 1-1 draw, back in March. So where did it all begin for Bester?’I started back in Namibia with my local side in Otjiwarongo, where I played for Golden Fire.’As a youngster I supported a team called Black Africa and we also followed English Premier League and the South African League – we watched a lot of this on DSTV.’In South Africa I supported Kaizer Chiefs, so my favourite player was Doctor Khumalo,’ Bester told maritzburgunited.co.za.Playing at the highest level in South Africa, in one of the continent’s top leagues, is something that the easy-going Namibian takes in his stride.’So far so good, I came here and went on trial with coach Gordon Igesund and I have done well since…so I’m happy and just look forward.’The league is competitive, its tough, but I don’t have a problem. The goal against Chiefs and also two games against Pirates are my most memorable moments,’ Bester says of his experiences as a PSL player. Bester is popular amongst his team-mates, and says life in the Natal Midlands suits him very well.’You know, I’m very happy here. It’s a quiet place, sometimes it rains and that, but I don’t have a problem because I like being indoors when I’m not playing soccer.’I enjoy hanging out with guys like Peter Petersen, Bevan Fransch, even the bus driver Manyombi, sometimes we all spend time together and have a braai or something like that when we are off,’ explains the 27-year-old.Bester believes its early days yet in the league and is confident that better times are ahead for the Team of Choice.’We need to play more as a unit, but I also feel that its too early in the season, so there is no need to panic yet.’- maritzburgunited.co.za
