The Sacred Bond of Marriage: Upholding Tradition and Commitment

In africa, we do not fear marriage for physical reasons, but because it has the power to ruin one’s life.

Marriage is not merely a casual event, but a sacred ritual of great significance and honour. It goes beyond the simple declaration of “I do”, and carries a profound commitment and reverence.

In today’s society, the sanctity of marriage seems to be fading.

Divorce rates are rising, and many people are quick to break the sacred bond they once made with their spouse. However, for some, marriage holds deep significance. As Africans, we are raised with the values of respecting marriage.

Marriage is more than just a legal contract or a public declaration of love. It is a sacred bond between two individuals who have chosen to commit to each other for life. In a successful marriage, there is no room for outsiders, because the couple shares a connection that no one else can understand.

When a man and a woman come together in marriage, they make sacrifices and give up certain things for the sake of their union. For an African woman, this may include distancing herself from her family, friends, and certain habits. For a man, it may mean taking on the responsibility of being the provider and protector of his family. Such sacrifices should not be taken lightly.

Unfortunately, not everyone understands the true value of marriage. Some may view it as a temporary commitment, easily discarded when challenges arise.

It is crucial to understand that attempting to break a marriage does not only cause emotional harm to the couple, but also takes away someone’s food and shelter. In the jungle, when a lion feels threatened in its territory, it may attack to protect itself. Similarly, when a marriage is threatened, it may lead to a breakdown of trust, communication, or even violence.

It is not worth risking everything for a temporary sense of satisfaction.

In African culture, marriage is seen as a sacred duty, and respect for it runs deep in our roots. Therefore, it is essential to remember the true purpose of marriage. As Africans, we must hold onto these values and continue to protect the sanctity of marriage.

Divorce should never be viewed as an easy way out, and outsiders should never come between a married couple.

Let’s continue to uphold the value of respect for marriage, and may it always remain a sacred bond between two individuals.
