The Last One

I start this one with a question. Why do all good things come to an end?

I am emotional. I am angry. I am confused. But above all, I am grateful. I am grateful for the community I managed to build, grateful for the opportunity to inspire and grateful for the space where I could always say it like it is, unfiltered and raw.

This is my last one, the final chapter of my writing journey with The Namibian. If this is the last piece I will ever write, I honestly do not think so. But for now, this is goodbye.

As I reflect, I sometimes feel I could have done more, inspired more, motivated more or influenced more as I believe my true calling lies in changing the mindsets of fellow men, protecting the boys and sharing insights that contribute to the betterment of men in society.

Through this platform, I had the privilege of writing over 86 articles and more than 51 600 words. The statistics may be endless, but above all, I am grateful.

A special thank you to June, who saw a little potential in me and simply said: “Hi Shawa, how about you start writing about grooming, fashion and related topics?”

At first, I questioned myself. Do I really have time for this? Do I even want to do it? My writing isn’t the best. I found every excuse possible. Then I reached out to my little-big friend, my sister, Mrs Hamata, and she told me: “Just do it.” And so, I did. I started writing.

From this journey came so much growth. My writing improved. My research skills improved. I discovered a genuine love for writing and, most importantly, I realised how much I enjoy inspiring others. I specifically enjoy tackling controversial and sensitive topics – the conversations people shy away from, but the ones that truly need to be had.

Looking back now, I still feel there was more I could have done, but I’m proud that I started. And I know this is only the beginning.

Back to June, she saw potential in me and gave me a chance. Imagine if more people chose to see potential in others and opened even the smallest door for them, whether it’s a job opportunity, a business opportunity, a mentorship or simply believing in someone when no one else does.

The world would be a far better place. There would be more positivity, more growth, more kindness and more happiness.

So today, I plead with you: give him a chance, give her a chance – and sometimes even a second chance. You never truly know what someone is capable of until they are given the opportunity to do more and to be more.

To my fellow readers, the ones who never missed an article, the ones who share, comment, engage and give their support in every possible way, thank you.

The little you may think you do means a lot more than you realise. Your engagement has kept me motivated and inspired throughout this journey. There are countless writers, freelancers and influencers who dream of having the opportunity to be featured on a platform of this size, and out of so many, I was fortunate enough to be given that chance. That is something I will never take for granted, and for that, I will forever remain grateful.

For now, I will take a little time to reflect, rethink and strategise this writing journey. But one thing is certain, I will continue writing.

What started as a simple platform has slowly grown into a brand – Mnr SK – and I truly believe it will become a respected and reputable one in the future.

Long after today, the vision, the message and the legacy will continue.

To all of you, stay blessed.
