A 20-year-old man died after he was stabbed during an altercation at a bar in the Mondesa area of Swakopmund on Sunday evening.
According to the police, the incident took place at a bar on Waterberg Street at the coastal town.
The victim, identified as Stephanus Ignatius James, was allegedly stabbed with a knife following a dispute at the bar.
He was later transported to Swakopmund State Hospital, where a doctor found a stab wound on his right thigh. He was declared dead shortly after arrival at the hospital.
His next of kin have been informed of his death.
Erongo police spokesperson Hilma Shomongula confirmed the incident and said a suspect has been arrested.
“The police arrested a 22-year-old Namibian male in connection with the incident. Investigations are ongoing,” Shomongula said.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder on Wednesday.
The police have not disclosed what led to the fatal altercation.
A police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the stabbing is continuing.
