Protecting Yourself in the World of AI

There is an artificial intelligence (AI) “arms race” and it seems it will not be slowed down, nor stopped, despite even AI vendors raising red flags.

Governments are more worried about the fear of missing out and handing the AI leadership to their rivals. They are supporting the building of AI focused data centres at pace and even suggesting a rebrand to “super intelligence”.

It seems unstoppable but we are not ready as a society and individuals for the consequences.

On 23 September, Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese announced that an autonomous AI program created by OpenAI unlawfully accessed a public-facing Australian government statistics portal in June 2026.

The rogue AI agent accessed both public and non-public statistical files. This case has highlighted:

  • The unpredictable behaviour of autonomous AI whereby AI models can resort to unauthorised hacking techniques when they are gathering data.

-There can be alignment failures where developers struggle to keep autonomous agents fully within their safety guardrails during multi-step tasks

-It took months for OpenAI to notify the breach (discovered August and notification was sent in September)
It’s not just corporations and governments that suffer, but individuals too. There is not a day that goes by without one hearing of a person losing their hard-earned money as a result of cybercriminals.

In order to help combat this, AM2 Communications are partnering with Goldphish and others to host a series of free seminars with the primary objectives of:

  • Spreading cyberawareness and giving practical advice
  • Give cyber students and tech entrepreneurs a platform to present their products/ideas to potential buyers/investors and practice their communications skills, which is the key differentiator when it comes to job interviews
  • Support The Namibian’s Let’s Read initiative which encourages literacy among young people

This is the first in a series of seminars, and we’ll aim to pitch it at a level that works for everyone before delving deeper in later seminars, taking into account the feedback from this first session.

The general topics of the seminar will cover:

  • Protecting yourself/your business
  • Protecting your children
  • Cyber safety standards
  • Use of AI
  • A guest innovator
  • Digital mindfulness

Not only will we be covering the technology side but also how to use our devices in a positive way, controlling your digital habits and reducing stress. This means you decide how, when, and why you use your digital devices, making technology serve your well-being instead of dictating your attention.

It will be an informal affair. Entry is free, but it will be great if every attendee donates N$50 to The Namibian’s Let’s Read literacy campaign.

The venue is the Protea Windhoek Furstenhof, 4 Dr Frans Indongo Street (Not to be confused with the Protea Hotel Thuringer Hof located at Independence/Bahnhof).
