THE Ongandjera Traditional Authority has announced that it will inaugurate a new palace and introduce a new king on Saturday. This was said yesterday by the spokesperson of the traditional authority, Johannes Kandombo.
He said the new king, Johannes Jafet Mupiya, who was appointed to succeed his uncle Jafet Munkundi who died on 26 July 2012, will be introduced to the Ongandjera community and other members of the public.
The ceremony, according to Kandombo will be held at the Ongandjera Royal Residence at Uukwandongo village in Omusati region, commencing at 12h00, preceded by the new king’s visit to the palace early on Saturday morning.
“All members of the Ongandjera community – young and old as well as other fellow Namibians – are invited to the inauguration of the royal residence and the introduction of Takekulu Omusimanekwa Omukwaniilwa Johannes Jafet Mupiya, following the recent rehabilitation or renovation of his palace,” Kandombo said. According to Kandombo, the Aangandjeras are well known for traditional and cultural practices like omupepo (blacksmith), etemo lyomulilo (fire), olushiya (whistle), eempalo (salt), omupembe gwandema (jumping) and traditional performances.
“The Aangandjera will showcase their prowess in these practices during the proceedings at the event. Saturday will be an ideal time for them to display their culture, during the day and throughout the night, leading up to the day of inauguration,” Kandombo said.
