THE Ministry of Trade and Industry has introduced an automated business registration system to speed up the registration of new companies.
The system will be implemented in phases to start with the migration of existing data dating back years. Deputy Minister Tjekero Tweya said the ultimate aim is to decentralise the system to all regions where specific computer portals and workstations are being set up at the ministry’s offices.Business registration forms which formerly were difficult to come by, and at a cost, will now be made available free of charge. The new arrangement cuts out revenue stamps affixed to the registration documents that had to be obtained from post offices. It would also cut out the costs charged by a chain of private suppliers, which Tweya said are often out of reach of aspiring and start-up entrepreneurs. On average, these costs would typically run from N$400 to N$4 000 for a close corporation.People wishing to register their businesses can now get business registration forms at all regional offices of the trade ministry, from regional council and local authority offices, and from Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) offices.
