Monica embodies inspiration at ‘Masters of Success’

FIRST Lady of Namibia Monica Geingos left audiences inspired after her talk as the first Namibian guest on MTC’s ‘Masters of Success’.

Responding to questions about her professional and personal life, Geingos provided the audience with a taste of her business acumen, expanded on her new role as First Lady and revealed her softer side as a mother and wife.

Foreign to the show’s tradition, the First Lady set aside a 15 minute question and answer session to engage with audience members.

Her response to questions certainly gave a whole new meaning to the word ‘inspire’ and definitely lived up to the aim of initiative.

Geingos said that because President Hage Geingob is so passionate about poverty eradication, she would like to use her entrepreneurial background to assist in the cause.

Although a tad hesitant, she touched on the burning land issue as well as Affirmative Repositioning (AR), saying that while she does not disagree with land being an issue and she applauds the bravery of those who speak out about it, she disagrees with the method AR is using to address the issue because it stirs anger.

“I give credit that they addressed it and I take my hat off to their bravery,” said the First Lady.

Being an academic herself with a number of qualifications including an LLB degree, Monica shared that, in her opinion, a university degree alone can not guarantee success but that education is important because it helps with critical thinking.

“Education taught me to think in a logical way.”

Responding to some financial education questions, Geingos offered some advice for investing, accumulating assets and responsible and realistic fund management. She urged young people to work towards accumulating wealth while they are still young.

“It’s not about what people expect you to drive, it is about what you can afford to drive. The biggest risk to your progress is normally yourself.”

On a lighter note, the First Lady was delighted at anecdotes from her childhood shared by her parents, who expressed how proud they are of her.

When asked what it is she wants to be remembered for, she said she’d like to represent change, and to bring about a change during her tenure as First Lady.
