Nandi-Ndaitwah tours fisheries sector at Walvis Bay

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah this week continued her engagement with Namibia’s fisheries sector with site visits to Pereira Fishing Co and Seawork Fish Processors at Walvis Bay.

She was briefed on operations across the value chain, from harvesting to processing and export, as part of efforts to assess industry performance and challenges.

At Pereira Fishing Co and Pereira Ocean Products, the president received an overview of operations focused on quality, sustainability and innovation.

The company targets high-value species such as hake and monkfish, with processing conducted onboard and at facilities at Walvis Bay and Lüderitz.

This also includes its compliance with international standards, including Marine Stewardship Council certification, which was listed as supporting Namibia’s export growth and commitment to responsible fisheries.

At Seawork Fish Processors, the president was introduced to an integrated operation covering catching, processing and export.

The company also places emphasis on skills development, youth and women’s participation, and inclusion within the sector.

Engagements with industry players also listed key priorities, including reliable access to quotas, increased onshore value addition, and the need for a stable investment environment to support jobs and growth.

Nandi-Ndaitwah reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a sustainable and competitive fisheries sector that protects marine resources, supports livelihoods, and contributes to economic growth.
