The Landless People’s Movement has suspended former Keetmanshoop councillor Joseph Isaacks following remarks he made to The Namibian last week, accusing party leader Bernadus Swartbooi of being a dictator.
The party’s operative secretary, David Eigub, confirmed the suspension in a letter dated 24 April.
The letter informs Isaacks that his membership is halted with immediate effect.
“As per resolution of the founding executive, this communiqué serves as a formal notice that your party membership is suspended effective immediately pending further investigations,” the letter reads.
Eigub further says Isaacks’ public statements have caused the party reputational harm.
“The statements you have made in The Namibian have tarnished the party, its leadership, our members and sympathisers,” he says.
According to the letter, the party leadership found Isaacks’ conduct to be in direct conflict with the LPM’s core values and ideological principles as set out in its constitution.
