I’m sure most of you have listened to my husband, I mean, Drake’s new album ‘Views’. Some people liked it, others didn’t.
But being a Drake fan, I’m biased so everything he puts out is gold (or platinum) to me.
One thing Drake likes to put an emphasis on in his music is relationships and how raw they make you feel. In the spirit of all things love, I am going to decode one of his songs, specifically ‘Redemption’, and do a comedic version of how a fictional woman would respond to this.
“Would I say all these things to have you feelin’ a way? Why would I tell you I’m 30 away if I’m not on the way? Why do I settle for women that force me to pick up the pieces? Why do I want an independent woman to feel like she needs me? I lost my way. ”
: Oh, Drake. You flatter me, you really do, but are you really the innocent one here or are all the things you say true
You’re telling everyone that you don’t lie to me, but sometimes, it feels like you do. You get mad and maybe I don’t respond in the way I’m supposed to, but really, I just want to help you deal with your past. We all have painful pasts, right? I feel like we need to cross those boundaries and work through them together, otherwise it will pull us down forever. I love you, but I love myself more.
“I’m searchin’ for these words to say to you. Please give me time. Redemption’s on your mind when you think about me. ”
I really do hope you find the words to say to me because I gave you enough time which is why I’m with someone else now. You don’t have to sing about redemption, I forgave you a long time ago. But if you’re still hiding things from me, then we can never truly go forward, can we? I’m sure you know it’s true. I wouldn’t lie to you, boo.
“Run your mouth, I’d rather listen to someone else. I gave your nickname to someone else. I know you’re seein’ someone that loves you, and I don’t want you to see no one else. I don’t want you here with someone else. I don’t wanna do this with no one else. ”
You tell me that you’re not interested in hearing what I want to say and that you’re calling someone else bae, yet you’re keeping up with what I do. What is the matter with you? I figure you’re trying to put the blame on me, but it’s not going to work, you see.
“I used to know you back when you was young. Your brother brought me through, you saw me. That made me think of you so differently. I miss the feeling of you missing me, but you say you’re over and done with me. ”
I’ve said a lot of things these days because of how we parted ways, but I’m not bitter and never will be. You just meant a lot to me. I still miss you, but won’t say it. Missing exes is overrated. I can’t help it, you’re still in my heart, though. You just won’t know.
“Tiffany on you, you know you poppin’. I’ll kill somebody if they give you problems. Master bedrooms where we get it poppin’. Just ignore all the skeletons in my closet. ”
You’re willing to protect me against ’em all, but your skeletons were our downfall. Maybe we’ll be better in another life and I’ll be the first woman you’ll ever wife.
Deep, ain’t it?
