Elago Nantana, the chairperson of a Namibian youth organisation, has embarked on his second solo walk – this time from Okahandja to Walvis Bay.
The organisation, called The Delivery Room Foundation, is dedicated to men’s mental health.
Nantana says his walk is titled ‘Mental Peace Walk: Walking for Peace in Namibia’, and aims to raise awareness of men’s mental health issues.
About a year ago, he walked from Oranjemund to Katima Mulilo.
He says his latest walk, which kicked off on 13 July and is set to end on 23 July, is dedicated to raising awareness of issues such as depression and suicide among Namibian men.
“It will also promote community unity and peace, especially during this important election year,” Nantana says.
He will be carrying camping equipment for overnight stays on his journey.
To ensure an incident-free walk, The Delivery Room Foundation is seeking the cooperation of various stakeholders.
Nantana will record his journey and use the video clips to spread messages of peace and emphasise the benefits of physical activity for mental health.
“The walk will also serve as a platform to promote The Delivery Room Foundation’s mental health booklet,” he says.
