The Central North Regional Electricity Distributor (Cenored) says one of its employees died while three others were injured in a workplace accident on a reticulation line between Otavi and Tsumeb.
The announcement was made by Cenored spokesperson Chali Matengu in a media statement issued on Friday.
According to the spokesperson, four members of Cenored’s technical team were working on a reticulation line between Otavi and Tsumeb late on Thursday when the accident occurred. One employee died, while the other three sustained injuries but remain in a stable condition.
“The deceased was a dedicated, trusted teammate and a committed public servant who approached his work with professionalism, care and a spirit of service,” Matengu says.
He says the employee is remembered by colleagues for his dependability, willingness to assist others and commitment to serving the public.
“His loss is devastating to his family, to all of us and to everyone who knew him,” he says.
Cenored extends its condolences to the deceased’s family, friends and colleagues on behalf of its board of directors, executive management and employees.
The spokesperson says it is working closely with the relevant authorities to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Matengu says Cenored will cooperate fully with the investigation, adding that safety remains one of its core values and that lessons from the incident will be used to strengthen measures aimed at preventing similar accidents in future.
