The Namibia Institute of Public Administration and Management (Nipam) has recognised public institutions that prioritise employee development, saying investment in human capital is essential for improving public service delivery.
This recognition took place during Nipam’s second public sector awards ceremony in Windhoek on Wednesday.
Nipam executive director Heroldt Murangi says the awards recognise institutions that invest in developing their employees.
“We believe public institutions that deliberately invest in the development of their people deserve to be recognised and celebrated,” he says.
Murangi says 12 institutions received 13 awards across the local authorities, regional councils, public enterprises, and offices, ministries and agencies categories.
He ssys the awards aim to encourage a culture where public institutions continuously strengthen the knowledge and skills of their employees.
The Khomas Regional Council received the public sector capacity development award in the regional council category, while the Ministry of Health and Social Services won in the offices, ministries and agencies category.
Nipam also recognised graduates who completed accredited public sector management programmes, with David Nathinge receiving the award for the highest overall academic performance in the postgraduate certificate in public sector management.
Murangi says Nipam wants the awards to inspire more institutions to invest in capacity development and strengthen governance and service delivery across the public sector.
