Khorixas pupils’ samples sent to lab

Following about 15 pupils from Versteende Woud Primary School being rushed to the Khorixas District Hospital on Monday after complaining of abdominal cramps and diarrhoea, samples have been sent to a laboratory to be tested.

Health and social services executive director Ben Nangombe on Tuesday said the pupils were seen by medical personnel and subsequently discharged.

“We are waiting for the laboratory results to tell us what was the cause of the symptoms,” Nangombe said. Once the results are available, they will be shared with the media and public, he added.

The majority of the pupils who fell ill on Monday are boarders at the Eddie Bowe Primary School hostel at Khorixas.

Pupils The Namibian spoke to said they fell ill at Versteende Woud Primary School, while education executive director Sanet Steenkamp on Monday said 13 pupils are from Versteende Woud Primary School and two are from Eddie Bowe Primary School.

The Eddie Bowe Primary School hostel accommodates 299 boarders.

A report is currently being drafted on the incident.
