KAPANA vendors all over the country will get a chance to showcase their skills in the kapana cook-off final which will be held at Oshakati this coming weekend.
The kapana cook-off final is a continuation of the ‘fifth annual national Nedbank kapana cook-off’ that started with the preliminary rounds in May this year in Windhoek.
According to Nedbank, the main sponsor of the competition, the preliminary rounds produced 13 finalists from various towns such as Oshakati, Windhoek, Gobabis and Walvis Bay. The finalists will be cooking it off for the championship title.
Gernot de Klerk, Nedbank manager for communication, said the competition is not only for grilling meat alone, but also serves as a uniting platform for Namibians as they showcase what they love.
“Not only are we looking forward to kapana treats, but we are also looking forward to the comradely unity of Namibians coming together and doing what they love. We are also excited to once again take the final to Oshakati,” De Klerk added.
He said the kapana cook-off is one of the vehicles which Nedbank uses to reach out to the informal sector, where small business players will be aided in formalising their business operations.
The winner will receive SME training and mentorship, a fully-furnished kapana mobile food trailer, along with a Nedbank bank account with a N$15 000 cash balance, and a MeatMa shopping voucher worth N$5 000.
“We hope that the winner will take the opportunity to continue investing in themselves, and dedicating time to doing what they love. At the end of the day, success comes when you are doing what you are meant to do,” De Klerk continued.
This year will be the fifth time that the event is being held, and all vendors have equal chances of participating as they enter free of charge to compete in regional events.
The cook-off competition will take place at the Game Shopping Centre at Oshakati, with Nedbank Namibia, in conjunction with NamChefs, MeatMa, Pick n Pay and Bakpro as main sponsors.
