Hoffmann wins Great Rebland Tour

NAMIBIAN professional cyclist Erik Hoffmann has been in great form in Germany lately and on Sunday won the Great Rebland Tour in the Baden Württemberg town of Wittnau.

Riding for the Baier Landshut team, Hoffmann beat a field of more than 100 cyclists to comfortably win the 112km event in a time of two hours, 52 minutes and 53 seconds. Christian Heule of Team Burgi FIDI BC followed in second place, 10 seconds behind, while his team mate Mirco Saggiorato came third, 23 seconds later. It was a fantastic solo performance by Hoffmann, considering that he had no support from his team mates and had to fend off the attacks by Team Burgi – FIDI BC, whose cyclists finished second, third and fourth. Hoffmann finished third in the King of the Mountains points classification with five points, behind the winner, Henning Beck, on 10 points and Christian Heule on six points. Hoffmann also finished eighth in the Sprints Hot Spot points classification with two points, behind the winner, Michel Luginbuhl who won with 15 points. The victory was the latest in a great season which has seen Hoffmann winning 12 races in Germany, while finishing second three times and third once. The previous weekend, on July 17, Hoffmann finished second at the Waginger Criterium behind his Baier Landshut teammate Helmut Trettwer. – namibiasport.com.na
