Film commission trains aspiring Zambezi creatives

The Namibia Film Commission has embarked on a film production training in Katima Mulilo for 45 aspiring creatives to gain hands-on training in storytelling, scriptwriting, and film production.

The week-long training done under the Kino Namibia programme comprises aspiring filmmakers, actors, musicians, and directors.

Namibia Film Commission’s spokesperson, Rebekka Malakia, told The Namibian that the 2026 Kino Namibia Film Festival training aims to equip aspiring filmmakers with practical skills in filmmaking process.

She added that after the workshop these trainees will then get an opportunity to showcase their talents by creating own locally inspired short films.

“After this training the participants will be able to create film productions. These films created by the participants will be premiered to the community on 24 May at the Zambezi Regional Council offices. We will also host awards to recognise the best participants in respective categories,” she said.

Malakia added that the training is facilitated by seasoned filmmaker Vitoria Sanyume.
