DJ Alba’s Trip to Tanzania

The sky does not seem to be the limit for content creator, producer, jeweller and one of the country’s biggest deejays DJ Alba (real name Alba Hamukwaya), as she was recently spotted playing a deejay set in Mbeya, Tanzania.

The renowned deejay told unWrap.online that after receiving and exchanging a few emails, she was booked and whisked away to the East African country.

“I had fun during my performance and teased them with a few Namibian songs and they actually responded very well to them. So it was definitely a beautiful experience,” she said.

DJ Alba added that although international opportunities are few and far between, the internet has made it easier to access other countries and build fan bases.

“I think it’s so important to create content around whatever it is you do, because you never know who might see it. It’s really becoming so easy to create a fan base outside Namibia only if you look at social media as more than just a place to post memes and selfies. I really look at it as a huge market place and with that I honestly believe anything is possible,” she added.

During the pandemic, DJ Alba was one of the few lucky creatives to have other sources of income, which include her groundbreaking jewellery and accessory brand ‘House of Nalo’, as well as creating content on social media.

“My main focus was on them while the gigs were minimal. Content creation is one of those things that really came at the right time for me, during the pandemic. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to work with brands like Showmax, Simba, Tafel Lager, FNB and Horizon Beer. Over the years, I made it a mission to add value to my brand and actually make it marketable and it really proved to be worth all the effort. I actually like the pace at which House of Nalo is growing as well,” Alba said.

She also recently released her fourth single, titled ‘ILA’, and is preparing to release a new one.
