African Energy Chamber executive chairperson NJ Ayuk has told Namibia to aggressively pursue its hydrocarbon resources for the betterment of the country.
Speaking at the seventh edition of the Namibia International Energy Conference (NIEC) in Windhoek on Wednesday, Ayuk said there have been talks of decarbonisation, but the energy gap in Namibia requires the continent to use all energy sources available.
“Prime minister, produce every drop of hydrocarbon you can find and better the life of your people, and I urge the industry to do one thing and one thing only: Drill, baby, drill,” he said.
Ayuk said this push for production must, however, allign with the empowerment of Namibians.
“But as we sit here as an industry, proclaiming our right to drill every prospect we find, it’s also important that we proclaim that Namibians need to be part of it.
“We cannot have an industry where local content is not part and parcel,” Ayuk said.
The conference is being hosted under the theme ‘Leading The Way: Becoming an Energy Hub with In-Country Value’.
The seventh edition of the conference is set to end on 25 April.
