Ariamsvlei border post temporarily closed

TRUCKERS bringing in goods in Namibia today through the Ariamsvlei border post are advised to rather wait for tomorrow or make use of the Noordoewer post as the customs and excise office there is closed today.

The offices were closed yesterday after two positive cases of Covid-19 were reported at the office, a source told .

Tonateni Shidhudhu, the finance ministry’s spokesperson yesterday sent out a notice to clearing and forwarding agents that the Ariamsvlei border post will be closed until today for fumigation against Covid-19.

Shidhudhu said trucks that mainly use that border post should use the Noordoewer border post instead.

Namibia Statistics Agency data shows that the Ariamsvlei border post is the main entrance of most goods, especially from South Africa, and it is about 250 kilometres from Noordoewer.

The Ariamsvlei border post customs office is expected to be open tomorrow, 2 September 2020 Shidhudhu said, according to health protocols they were fumigated yesterday.

Business owners have complained that the shutting down of operations, especially at government offices and agencies for many days disrupt the order of business and alternative should be made early as opposed to shutting down an entire office.
