Laliq Adams excelled by winning a gold medal at the World Youth Games in Gothenburg, Sweden on Saturday.
Competing in the girls u14 shotput event, Adams won the gold medal with a throw of 13.58m.
It is Namibia’s first gold medal at this year’s event, while Adams follows in the footsteps of Mathew Coetzee who won gold last year in the 80m dash.
Adams is a pupil of Windhoek Afrikaanse Privaatskool, who congratulated her on her achievement.
“Laliq – your hard work, dedication and determination has beared fruit. You have represented not just Windhoek Afrikaanse Privaatskool, but the whole of Namibia with pride. Your achievement proves that dreams can come true when talent, discipline and perseverance come together.
“Congratulations too to your coaches, parents and everyone who supported you on this trip. You have all made an immeasurable contribution to this historic achievement,” it said.
