The launch of the Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) Content Creator Awards 2026 took place in Windhoek on Thursday, introducing 24 categories and revamping voting mechanisms.
Some of the new categories introduced include hair and beauty, as well as fashion and lifestyle.
Organisers say this year’s event will run over a longer period, with the content creator workshop and the main awards ceremony, both scheduled for October.
‘’The vision for the awards is expanding,” awards founder Carlos Gurirab says the goal this year is collaboration and professionalisation.

“We want to help creators look at how they can cooperate to take the industry to the next level,” Gurirab says. “We want to inspire the next generation to create content and make money for themselves. A lot of people in Namibia are already getting paid well for their content – now it’s just about bringing a few more along.”
Main sponsor MTC is currently in the second year of a three-year commitment to the platform.
MTC spokesperson Erasmus Nekundi says the ‘’industry is already showing noticeable signs of maturity’’.
Nekundi acknowledges that while there have been operational hiccups in the past, the team is actively addressing them to ensure the industry expands beyond social media onto mainstream TV and global platforms.
