Akan makes a winning start

ALI Akan made a victorious start as Black Africa’s coach, leading them to an emphatic 3-0 victory against nine-man African Stars at Windhoek’s Independence Stadium on Saturday.

In a dramatic match in front of about 5 000 spectators, lady luck deserted Stars as they had two players sent off and despite fighting bravely till the end, they were clearly outnumbered and suffered their first defeat of the season in the process.
BA took an early lead when captain Lolo Goraseb found the ball in space and struck a 20m shot from the edge of the box into the corner of the net.
The match took a dramatic turn when Stars midfielder Rudi Louw was red-carded for kicking Erastus Mundjanima in the face.
Despite being a man down, Stars continued to attack with Edison Muheua particularly effective down the right wing, while Goraseb, Bryan Bantam and Jerome Louis looked sharp for BA in attack.
Stars’ hopes of grabbing a draw suffered a final blow with ten minutes remaining when Mbaeva was red carded for handling the ball outside the box.
Black Africa immediately capitalised as Bantam scored from the resulting freekick, while Louis scored a superb solo goal in the final minute to wrap up a convincing win.
It was a winning start for Akan, who told Namibia Sport that he would only be in charge of Black Africa on a temporary basis for three months before returning to South Africa.

Civics beat 10-man Pirates
Civics recorded a convincing 3-1 victory against ten-man Orlando Pirates on Friday night. Pirates were reduced to 10 men after only 20 minutes when defender Ivan Makina was sent off after picking up two yellow cards. Civics used their extra man to good advantage, stretching play as wide as possible, to notch up a convincing victory.
Civics took the lead through a superb solo goal by Bradley Wermann shortly after Makina’s dismissal. He received the ball in the centre of the park and, showing great ball control, dribbled his way past two defenders before beating Heribert Kapeng with a powerful shot.
Civics’ pressure paid off in the second half when the impressive Victor Helu broke clear down the right and sent in a cross that Eslin Kamuhanga stabbed home at the far post.
Pirates’ fans started streaming home as Civics continued to attack and Pineas Jacob made it 3-0 when he slammed home a cross by Heini Isaacs.
In the final stages Johannes Seibeb pulled a goal back for Pirates with a great shot from a corner that eluded everyone and curled into the net.
