AC Promotions and AC Boxing Academy have reaffirmed their commitment to boxing and thanked their sponsors and supporters following Flame ‘Special One’ Nangolo’s first round defeat to Martin Mukungu on 30 May.
In a press release issued on Thursday, AC Promotions owner Imms Moses said the event attracted strong support from boxing fans, corporate partners, and stakeholders, further highlighting the growing popularity of professional boxing in Namibia.
“After two weeks of resting and reflecting following one of the biggest and most talked-about boxing events ever promoted locally, we would also like to extend our appreciation to all the boxing fans who came out to support the event by purchasing tickets, as well as all the corporate companies that bought tables and helped make the event possible,” Moses said, adding that Nangolo has recovered well.
“Flame ‘Special One’ Nangolo is in good health and has successfully completed all the medical procedures required by the Namibia Boxing and Wrestling Control Board following the fight. He underwent a brain scan, MRI, and MRA examinations, and we are pleased to confirm that he is medically fit and motivated to return to the ring and reclaim his crown,” he said.
“Boxing is a beautiful sport. Every young fighter who steps into the ring puts his life on the line to represent Namibia and place our country on the world map. One loss will never define the career of a fighter. Even the greatest legendary champions in the history of boxing have experienced defeat before rising again to become world champions.
In life, every human being goes through losses and setbacks, the difference is that most of those defeats do not happen on national television. What truly matters is how one rises, responds, and bounces back from adversity,” he added.
“As AC Boxing Academy and AC Promotions, we remain committed to developing young talent, creating opportunities for the youth, keeping young people off the streets, and contributing toward employment creation through sport,” Moses said.
Moses thanked their sponsors and called on more corporates to support boxing.
“We would like to sincerely thank our main sponsors, David Namwandi Trust, and our co-sponsors, Kadhila Amoomo Legal Practitioners,
Trustshield Insurance Brokers, and Readibites Meat Market for always standing behind us and supporting the growth of boxing in Namibia,” he said.
“Despite the progress and impact we continue to make, AC Boxing Academy still faces major challenges in securing long-term sponsorship and financial support. We therefore humbly appeal to our president, government leaders, and stakeholders who have been following and appreciating our work to assist in strengthening and supporting sports development initiatives in Namibia,” he added.
“We also appeal to the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture to look into ways of assisting boxing promoters and sports development organizations through funding and structured support programs, because without meaningful government intervention, sport in Namibia risks suffering greatly in the future. We remain committed to uplifting Namibian boxing and giving hope to the next generation,” Moses said.
