The Ministry of International Relations and Trade has confirmed that Namibian citizen Nguvi Mberirua, who was reported missing in London in the United Kingdom, has been found and is in contact with her family.
This follows on weeks of efforts to establish her whereabouts, after a video of Mberirua appearing disoriented and unwell on a London underground train went viral on social media.
“In accordance with privacy and welfare considerations, the ministry is not at liberty to disclose any further information regarding her circumstances,” the ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
The ministry said Mberirua’s family had also confirmed on social media that she had been found.
Mberirua has been living and studying in London for the past few years.
A family member, who did not want to be mentioned, previously told The Namibian that the family was working closely with relevant authorities to locate her, and appealed for privacy while the search was going on.
The ministry earlier said its diplomatic missions and consular services provide assistance to Namibians abroad who find themselves in distress.
Ministry executive director Jerobeam Shaanika said this included liaising with local health or social services and family members and, where circumstances permit, facilitating an individual’s return to Namibia.
