Delta school hostel closed after positive Covid-19 case

Delta Primary School has temporarily closed its hostel following a positive case of Covid-19 detected at the school hostel on Thursday.

In a notice issued to parents and guardians on Friday, the school says the caretaker responsible for pupils at the hostel tested positive for Covid-19, prompting the Ministry of Health and Social Services to intervene immediately.

It says the ministry attended to the matter on Friday and recommended that the hostel be closed immediately to contain the situation and prevent the spread of the virus.

“The ministry is at the school, screening [on Friday] and testing all hostel staff and pupils. Disinfection of the premises is scheduled for Tuesday,” the notice reads.

All Delta pupils including those not in the hostel are requested to remain at home from Monday.

Parents and guardians are requested to keep their children at home until further notice.

“We understand that this may cause some inconvenience, but the health and safety of our pupils, staff and families remain our highest priority. We sincerely appreciate your cooperation, understanding and support during this time,” the school says.

The school says further information will be communicated should the ministry have further recommendations and that the date for collecting report cards would be confirmed on Monday.
