Youth AIDS-HIV NGO begging for funding after donor cuts

A YOUTH-LED non-government organisation promoting HIV-AIDS awarenesss is facing a major funding crisis following a sudden freeze in donor funding.

This has put a halt to many of the critical programmes of the Ombetja Yehinga Organisation (OYO), including dance, film, and theatre productions to promote awareness of HIV-AIDS, gender-based violence, and youth empowerment.

OYO director Philippe Talavera has confirmed the cuts, stating that 60% of the NGO’s budget was lost overnight due to shifts in international donor priorities.

“We had no warning,” he says. “This has severely impacted our ability to continue working in schools and communities.”

In response, OYO has launched a crowdfunding campaign, calling on Namibians who have seen and benefited from their work to step in and help.

Donations will ensure that OYO can continue reaching young people.

Contributions can be made via OYO’s official crowdfunding platform.

“Every donation, big or small, will help sustain its vital work,” Talavera says.
