UDF on a membership recruitment drive

THE United Democratic Front (UDF) has introduced PVC cards as part of its membership recruitment drive to prepare for the upcoming party wings and branches’ elective meetings, conferences and congresses scheduled for later this year.

The recruitment drive, according to the party secretary general Elijah /Gawaseb, is in accordance with the amended party constitution done in 2019. UDF amended the party’s constitution to update certain sections to align with the current political environment, he added.

“The biggest challenge with the current membership card was that it did not have the member’s face, making it difficult to identify a member promptly during party events, activities, meetings and programmes where entry requires a membership card. Some members could use another member’s card to gain entry, which results in conflicts,” said /Gawaseb.

He added that the new cards are free, however, members will be required to pay the party annual membership fee of N$60. The office of the secretary general will do the entire membership data capturing.

UDF has planned the party’s national congress for 2022 to elect new members into the central committee.

UDF was formed as a coalition of different traditional groups and leaders in 1989 to take part in the country’s first democratic elections that year, with a membership of over 25 000 and over 40 branches across the country.
