Tura Magic hold Pirates to goalless draw

Tura Magic held out for a goalless draw against Orlando Pirates in the opening match of the 2-015/16 Namibia Premier league season at Windhoek’s Independence Stadium on Friday night.

Magic midfielder Robinson Iyambo was shown a red card shortly before halftime when he threw the ball at a Pirates player in a scuffle and the referee Gottlieb Matheus immediately showed him a red card.

Despite being a man down, Magic defended admirably in the second half to stem numerous attacks by the Buccaneers.

Tiberius Lombaard cleared a shot by off the line, while 11 volleyed wide after latching onto a freekick by 10.

At the other end, Magic nearly took a shock lead on 68m when a scorching 30m freekick by Okeri Mekopo was tipped over the bat by Pirates keeper Charles Uirab.

With ten minutes to go, Lombaard once again came to the rescue for Magic when he cleared a shot off the line after a corner, as Magic managed to hold on for a valuable draw.
