Time to show our league’s quality – Kanalelo

Brave Warriors assistant coach Ronnie Kanalelo trusts that the team will display the best of local football on Sunday as they host Zambia in the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier first leg match at the Sam Nujoma stadium.

Following their six-match unbeaten run at the Cosafa Cup, which included dethroning Zambia of the regional title in May as well as a 1-0 defeat away at Niger last Sunday, assistant coach Ronnie Kanalelo believes the team is good enough to play Zambia, albeit minus the foreign-based players.

“It is the battle of the leagues and we need to show the quality of our league. I believe they will have about 80 per cent of the players that we faced in the Cosafa Cup, but we have a game plan and I believe we can win,” he said.

“Different situations in games can dictate how you play but we have a standard way of approaching games due to the qualities and strengths of our players” Kanalelo added.

The former Brave Warriors goalkeeper said that the players know what is at stake and are determined to play well and get the result they need at home.

“It won’t be an easy game because Zambia will also be out to avenge the Cosafa Cup defeat, so that will make the game even more interesting”, observers Kanalelo.

Kanalelo called on the nation to come and support the team.

“Playing at home you always need the maximum support you can get and for us it is important to come out and see the stands packed. It gives the players extra motivation to know that they are not only playing for themselves but indeed for those in the stands and those watching at home. Please come and support the boys,” Kanalelo said.

The match will be played at the Sam Nujoma Stadium with kickoff set for 14h30 and tickets selling at Computicket and Football House in Katutura for N$40 each. The Zambian team is expected to arrive in Windhoek on Friday afternoon. – nfa.org.na
