Swart Baster, whose real name is Allen Jonathan, is back in the studio and is completing his latest 18-track album, ‘Expendable’, which is a fusion of Afrikaans, Afro-pop and traditional music.
The ‘My Hart Maak Ding Dong’ said he has started shooting music videos for some of the songs and is scouting for people to shoot the Afrikaans song titled ‘Hartloos’.
“I had financial problems, so I took a step back to deal with that. I will drop ‘Expendable’ soon. Right now, I’m concentrating on shooting videos. I already shot one, but it is not yet out. The producer is making sure it is very high quality. Now, we are on this one called ‘Hartloos’. I’m looking for coloured lines, because the storyline calls for that,” he said.
Last year, the former rapper came out of a decade-long musical obscurity with the remix of his one-time hit ‘Ding Dong’ by veteran musician Boli Mootseng.
He admitted at the time that it jogged the minds of his fans and introduced him to a younger generation, as he is working on making an official comeback with the release of this new album.
‘Ding Dong’ made Swart Baster, who had tried his hand at many Afrikaans songs, an overnight sensation in the early 2000s and almost every jukebox and club deejay had this song on repeat, at the fans’ request.
‘Ding Dong’ is an Afrikaans track on which a lover asks for a pen and paper to write a letter to his girlfriend, urging her to make up her mind and stop hurting him.
His albums include ‘If Not Why Not’, ‘Vrede is Die Rede’ and ‘Point of No Return’ that was dropped in 2016, before he took a break.
