Swapo Party Youth League leader Paulus Nuuyoma was denied bail in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
He appeared on charges linked to an alleged insurance fraud scheme involving more than N$1.2 million.
Nuuyoma is accused of facilitating a fraudulent insurance payout of N$1.2 million linked to Klaudia Martin, as well as a payment of about N$69 000 allegedly claimed by Abner Mateus.
Mateus is accused of masterminding the violent attack on the late Ondangwa prosecutor, Justine Shiweda, in October last year.
The state alleges that medical personnel at Onandjokwe Intermediate Hospital substituted laboratory results issued by the Namibia Institute of Pathology belonging to Elizabeth Elifas and presented them as those of Martin in support of the fraudulent insurance claim.
Nuuyoma, who unsuccessfully contested for the position of Swapo regional treasurer in 2024, appeared in court alongside Abner Samuel, Mateus’ brother.
Samuel is facing a separate charge of allegedly defrauding Sanlam of N$253 000. He was also denied bail.
