Five people, including four medical professionals, were granted bail of N$25 000 each by the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Friday in connection with an alleged N$2.2 million fraud case involving Sanlam.
The accused are Sanlam financial adviser Getrud Ipinge, Omuhungo Clinic nurse Michael Kaviyu, Ondandjokwe Intermediate Hospital medical doctor Varela Gomes, intern doctor Kelsey Kudumo, and former Onandjokwe Intermediate Hospital employee Festus Amwaalwa.
The five appeared before the court following their arrest as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged fraudulent activities. The four medical professionals were arrested in March this year, while Ipinge was arrested in May. They face 13 charges.
Magistrate Bornface Konga said the court had difficulty understanding some of the charges, particularly those relating to the Prevention of Organised Crime Act which appear to be irregular.
The court imposed strict bail conditions, including that the accused surrender their travel documents, refrain from applying for new travel documents and not commit similar offences while on bail.
