Beneficiaries who qualify for more than one social grant can now receive all their payments in a single transaction on their designated payout date.
This was announced by finance minister Ericah Shafudah in parliament last week while responding to Independent Patriots for Change member of parliament Michael Mwashindange on delays in monthly pension payments.
Previously, beneficiaries receiving more than one grant were unable to receive all their payments in a single transaction. As a result, they had to take multiple trips to collect their payments, placing an additional financial burden on them due to the transportation costs.
“NamPost has confirmed that beneficiaries qualifying for multiple grants are now able to receive all payments in a single transaction on their designated payout date,” the minister said.
The change is aimed at reducing the burden on beneficiaries who previously had to take separate and repeated trips to access different grants, she said.
The change also comes as the government works to address challenges experienced during the rollout of the current social grant payment system.
Shafudah said the ministry and NamPost have implemented measures to improve the efficiency of grant payments and reduce difficulties faced by beneficiaries, including deploying additional mobile payment teams at high-traffic and rural branches.
