WINDHOEK – Namibian international Petrus Shitembi has penned a six-months deal with Zambia Premier League club Lusaka Dynamos.
He becomes the fourth Namibian international in the Zambian top-flight, linking up with fellow Brave Warriors’ players in defender Teberius Lombard and attacking midfielder Willy Stephanus at Dynamos, with versatile Benyamin Nenkavu at Buildcon Ndola club.
The 26-year-old Rundu Chiefs product has been without a club since ending his stint at Tura Magic at the end of the 2017/18 Namibia Premier League (NPL) season in May.
Speaking to Nampa on Tuesday, Shitembi said he got several offers at home and abroad prior to the one he just signed, which he believes is the best offer.
“Joining Lusaka Dynamos will help me get my place back in the national squad as I do not want to be without a club, and then miss out in representing my country at the biggest continental showpiece we are on the verge of qualifying for,” the left-footed playmaker explained.
The dribbling wizard previously played in South Africa and Ghana before returning to the MTC Namibia Premiership with Tura Magic.
The footballer, who has won a Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) Cup with Namibia, and also reached the quarter-finals of the African Nations Championship (Chan), said the Zambian league is competitive, and will help him grow as an individual.
“My ambition of playing football at the top level still remains the same. I am happy that I managed to sign a contract which is for six months and perfect for me as I am looking forward to qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations,” Shitembi added. – Nampa
