After six trophy-laden years at Mamelodi Sundowns, Peter Shalulile’s time at Chloorkop has officially come to an end, Soccer Laduma can reveal.
The Siya crew has learnt that the Namibian international has parted ways with the Brazilians after his contract expired on June 30, with the club and player agreeing not to continue despite Sundowns holding a one-year option in the deal.
Shalulile’s future had been the subject of speculation in recent weeks, with discussions taking place over whether theformer Betway Premiership champions would trigger the option to keep one of the club’s greatest ever goalscorers.
However, Siya sources have now confirmed that both parties have mutually agreed to go their separate ways, bringing an end to one of the most successful player-club partnerships in the PSL era.
The 32-year-old leaves Sundowns as a club legend, having won multiple league titles and domestic trophies while establishing himself as one of the most prolific strikers on the African continent since joining from Highlands Park in 2020.
Those close to the player had previously indicated that Shalulile was open to remaining at Sundowns if the club elected to retain him, but the final decision has been to close the chapter following the expiry of his contract.
With Sundowns expected to continue reshaping their squad ahead of the new season, the club has opted against exercising the additional year available in Shalulile’s contract.
The experienced forward is now available as a free agent and is expected to attract significant interest. Siya sources have previously indicated that opportunities in the Middle East, as well as elsewhere on the continent, could be among the options considered for the next phase of his career.
While his next destination remains to be seen, Shalulile departs Chloorkop having cemented his legacy as one of the finest strikers to wear the famous yellow jersey, leaving behind a remarkable record of goals, trophies and unforgettable moments.
