Religion And Rights

THIS is to respond to a question posed to Christian nations by Dr Armas A.D to The Namibian 27 May 2011.

‘Since Christian countries have build military bases in many Muslim countries, will Christian states also allow Muslim states to have military bases in their countries?’ This is a very interesting question since the answer to that is quite simple. In my opinion as a Christian I would say, why not? If we go back to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights introduced in 1948, it’s clearly stated in the 20th article that ‘you have the right to organise peaceful meetings in a peaceful way and it is wrong to force someone to belong to a group.’ In simple words, Muslim nations have the right to set their bases in Christian countries in a peaceful manner with good intentions because we also ‘have the right to live in freedom and safety’, so says the third article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. But then I’ve realized that we have a problem with one of the Islamic nations (Saudi Arabia) in which the supreme law of this nation does not allow the existence of two religions in the country, violating Article 8 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that states; ‘You have the right to profess your religion freely, to change it and to practice it either on your own or with other people.’ Is this right?Sainga SeverinusUnam psychology student
