Everyone has a goal for the new year, from removing exes from their lives to embracing the possibility of a love life.
Starting afresh in terms of relationships or even resolutions for some may seem like a cliché, but others find it cleansing and life-altering.
Sometimes it is a matter of starting over, such as accepting how to move on after the death of a loved one, or even finding new ways to strengthen current relationships to eventually go the long haul.
One such example is Kimberly Kay, who said that building her relationship around God was key for this year. “First things first! I want to make God the centre of our relationship, to build each other in every possible way. We promised each other to communicate better, to trust each other better and to respect each other and most importantly, to love each other unconditionally.”
Others believe in finally planning their perfect wedding, or acing the proposal in the year. It is proven that setting goals can help you create a focus point in your life – where you hope to be in the next few months. Also, it helps you relieve your stress and puts a word out to the universe so that things work out the way you want them to.
But this requires effort on your part. If you are single, where do you plan on looking if you are ever to find love? Should you take the initiative to create an internet profile and hope that it works out? Should you send your love interest a message on social media to let them know you would like to pursue them?
Onesty Papy said that he was willing to take a big step in life this year. “I would like to get married,” he said.
Abel Constitution Ekotamango shared that he would like to “accept my partner’s annoying attributes and make fun of them more so that it annoys her instead”.
If you are in a relationship, is the aim to improve communication?
If yes, how? Should there be more dates, for example, a date night every week where you both put your phones away and just talk about what has been happening? Is an engagement in the works, perhaps, because you’re sure this is the person you want to live the rest of your life with?
Are there toxic people or things you need to cut out of your life who are making your relationship a living hell? How do you fix them?
There are quite a number of things to think about when it comes to relationships – it’s more than just ‘let’s get together’. Planning is always key.
