MISS Supranational Namibia 2020, Chanique Rabe (24), will represent the country at the 12th edition of the Miss Supranational pageant in Nowy Sacz, Poland.
Rabe will leave Namibia for Poland on 25 July.
The pageant was originally scheduled to take place at the end of 2020, but was postponed due to the global Covid-19 pandemic.
The finale will take place on 21 August and will be streamed live on YouTube and Facebook.
The Miss Supranational pageant was started in 2009 and is managed by the World Beauty Association.
A parallel male contest, Mister Supranational, is also held annually.
The current pageant title holders are Anntonia Porsild of Thailand and Nate Crnkovich of the United States.
They were elected in 2019, but will retain their titles into 2021.
Last year was the first year that the Miss and Mister Supranational contests were not held since their inception.
A total of 53 delegates, including Rabe, have been selected for the pageant.
Other titles in 2015 under Rabe’s name are Miss Teen Namibia and Miss Teen Continents. Rabe has an honours degree in fashion, and is currently a fashion designer with her own clothing brand.
She says she is thrilled at the opportunity to travel and represent her country.
“International travels have been very limited in the last year, so to have the incredible opportunity to not only travel abroad, but also represent Namibia in a country I have never been to, is absolutely exhilarating. I can’t wait for my 12-hour flight. I am also looking forward to making new friends for life. The previous Miss Supranational competition was voted as the best pageant production of the year with one of the biggest stages, so of course I can’t wait to be part of the show,” she says.
“It is a strong pageant with a clear vision. They are proud of their title holders and they become a family who looks out and cares for each other. Since I started my journey I have been inspired by the motto ‘aspire to inspire before we expire’,” Rabe says.
She contests have taught her a lot about herself.
“It has given me the opportunity to really grow as a woman, to develop strong beliefs, to find my passions, and to generate the confidence to live out my dreams,” Rabe says.
She says planning an international trip amid a third Covid-19 wave is not easy.
Rabe believes the potential of Namibia’s pageant industry is not realised.
“The beautiful and strong Namibian woman, and our capabilities are very often overlooked when it comes to the pageantry industry. I honestly believe Namibia’s name deserves to be mentioned on every international stage. Our country’s authenticity and diversity deserves to be heard, seen and promoted,” she says.
