The Roads Authority (RA) has dismissed claims that road construction projects have been abandoned, saying outstanding sections remain government commitments but depend on annual funding availability.
In a statement issued recently, RA chief executive Hippy Tjivikua says projects are being implemented in phases due to financial constraints and competing national priorities.
“Contrary to some public assertions, it is incorrect to suggest that the government, the RA or the Road Fund Administration has abandoned any road project,” he say.
Tjivikua says the three institutions are discussing funding arrangements and prioritising projects, particularly those nearing completion, to sustain progress.
He acknowledges delays and concerns over poor road conditions, which contribute to safety risks, inconvenience and increased transport costs for road users.
The RA says it is pursuing targeted maintenance, faster procurement and improved project sequencing to address challenges.
Tjivikua is urging the public to remain patient, assuring stakeholders that road construction and maintenance remain national priorities despite fiscal pressures.
