Only three Cymot workers reinstated

CYMOT has failed to adhere to a recent ruling by labour consultant Sacky Aipinge that all 79 workers who were dismissed after a wildcat strike in May should be reinstated.

The Secretary General of the Metal and Allied Namibian Workers Union (Manwu), Moses Shiikwa, told The Namibian yesterday that only three workers had been reinstated. Shiikwa said Manwu had approached its lawyers to fight the matter with Cymot on their behalf.Aipinge conducted an appeal hearing between Cymot and Manwu. He agreed with Cymot that the strike had been illegal, but felt that the company had not clearly explained to the workers that they would be fired unless they returned to work.Cymot Managing Director Axel Theissen has refuted this.He said the workers had been given two ultimatums to return to work.Shiikwa said Manwu had approached its lawyers to fight the matter with Cymot on their behalf.Aipinge conducted an appeal hearing between Cymot and Manwu. He agreed with Cymot that the strike had been illegal, but felt that the company had not clearly explained to the workers that they would be fired unless they returned to work.Cymot Managing Director Axel Theissen has refuted this.He said the workers had been given two ultimatums to return to work.
